A free horror-mystery game
Interrogation 091 is a free horror and mystery game developed by Wafflegum. In this psychological and suspenseful game, you play the role of a detained person who must undergo an interrogation process. However, as the questions go on, the environment changes and makes you question if there’s something more happening than just a simple interrogation.
Like other experimental adventure games such as First Land, Interrogation 091 creates an eerie experience by using all game elements in a great combination. From its dimly lit stage, 3D sound, and simple controls, you will be made to focus on the interrogation process.
Welcome to the interrogation room
Once you open Interrogation 091, you are given a reminder for the best experience: wear headphones. It works absolutely well since the game uses positional audio to give you hints of where you are or if there’s something or someone moving toward you. This adds a layer of realism, as well as invoking fear and curiosity as the game goes on.
You find yourself in a dimly lit room, with only a bulb above and a pair of CCTVs flanking a large, dark window. This window introduces itself as John Smith, the one asking questions. All you have to do is answer all yes or no questions through the two buttons in front of you: green for yes and red for no. You can also try to move around the room.
Generally, it asks you general and existential questions such as whether you believe life is worth living or whether you regret anything recently. Here is where it gets freakishly scary, it breaks the fourth wall and asks you very personal questions. The only setback in this game is that it only has one ending, regardless of your responses. This limits replayability and reduces scare the next time around.
A weird, scary experience
Interrogation 091 creates a memorable gaming experience. Its simplicity works to make the interrogation eerie, suspenseful, and unpredictable. Playing it in a silent place with headphones definitely improves your feel of the environment, completing the effort of putting you in that very room. Also, since there’s only one ending to the game, it makes the game a one-time experience only. Still, this is one try you shouldn’t miss.
