Add new dimensions to Spaces

Spaces is one of the many things that makes Leopard so much better than using Windows. The ability to work on 4 different desktops at once is like having 4 different monitors.

It has to be said though it can be a little confusing when switching regularly between different spaces and there aren’t many customization options. Hyperspaces is designed to solve this problem by creating a far more intuitive Spaces experience. Among its many benefits, Hyperspaces allows you to set different wallpapers on different desktops, give names to your desktops (excellent for dividing work and leisure) and create keyboard shortcuts to spaces.

Hyperspaces instantly integrates with Spaces so you’re ready to go as soon as you’ve unpacked it. You’ll need to click on your spaces icon in your menu bar to start configuring the various options available to you. I added two new labels – Work and Leisure – and tried to apply a new desktop picture to the leisure space. However, the desktop background would not appear, although if you right click on the spaces icon it shows you a thumbnail of each space where it did appear for some strange reason. I then changed the images to one of a smaller resolution and it worked fine, so be aware that trying to use backgrounds of a very high resolution may not work properly.

Hyperspaces is an excellent extension to Spaces and great for those that often get confused switching between spaces or want multiple desktop backgrounds.

This is a recommended upgrade for all users – it resolves many issues, but please read the release notes fully before updating.Fixes the ability to change desktop colors (this was broken in 1.0.4).The space switcher is now shown by default when you click on the Hyperspaces icon in the menubar. Right click to show the menu from previous builds.Fixes the ‘Show/hide desktop icons’ control being disabled.Fixes the display of the Dock space switcher – it will show up in the right spot at all Dock icon sizes now.If the Hyperspaces icon in the menubar is not shown, using the hotkey to show the space switcher will cause it appear just above the current mouse location.Fixes the font rendering for the space name in the menu bar.Removes the warning when Spaces is disabled. Hyperspaces will continue to run if Spaces is disabled, but you’ll only have access to change one space.Fixes the clearing of space background images under Mac OS X 10.5.Many other fixes and improvements. Please note: this release of Hyperspaces updates your preferences to a newer format. Your existing preferences will be backed up first, but you will not be able to go back to an earlier build once this has happened.
