Arcade racing game for PC

Hotshot Racing is a premium racing game for PC that was made by Sumo Digital Ltd. Its gameplay and design were inspired by the classic arcade titles of the 90s. The game features vibrant retro visuals and boasts high-speed races that focus on drift handling.

Just like the Ridge Racer Unbound or Redout, Hotshot Racing focuses more on a fun and fast-paced racing experience paired with its charming 90s-style graphics and art style. It is available for purchase in two versions, the Standard Edition with the base game or Deluxe Edition that comes with the soundtrack.

Is it any good?

Hotshot Racing has 16 tracks to race in that features various locations, from coastlines to mountain passes, and even the jungle. You get to choose from 8 speed-thirsty drivers to control, each with its own unique car and characteristics. What’s more, you’ll be able to play the game solo or with your friends in 4-player split-screen or online multiplayer of up to 8 racers.

Hotshot Racing has the Time Trial and Grand Prix Modes if you want to play the classic arcade racing experience. For an extra twist, you can try out the Drive or Explode wherein you will need to maintain a certain speed else the bomb strapped to your car will explode. Meanwhile, Cops and Robbers will have you try your best to avoid capture by the police.

Lastly, there’s an online global leaderboard where you can race against other players’ ghosts and compete for the fastest track lap times. There are some game balance issues when it comes to AI opponents, though, particularly with their use of the rubber banding effect. They stick to you no matter how fast you go and would often bump you and mess up your turns.

Fast, fun, if a bit unfair

In summary, Hotshot Racing is a nice racing homage to the classic arcade racers of years past. The retro graphics are nice and there are plenty of game modes and characters to choose from. It can feel a little unfair sometimes, but overall, this one is worth checking out.
