Experience prison life in this GTA 5 mod
GTA 5 Prison Mod is a free-to-use mod for the action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto V. Created by marhex123, this mod allows players to spend time in jail. It’s intended to improve the immersion of the base game, much like other mods such as GTA 5 Real Life Mod.
GTA V is an award-winning video game developed by Rockstar Games. Released in 2013, it’s the seventh title in the famous game franchise. The vanilla game is well loved by fans and newcomers alike but through mods created by passionate players, it has continued to improve.
Get arrested and spend jail time
GTA 5 Prison Mod allows you to be arrested by cops and be brought straight to prison. Unlike in the vanilla game, you won’t end up in front of the police precinct upon getting caught. When arrested, you lose control of your character and are forced inside a police mobile, which then takes you to prison. You can watch the entire trip or skip straight to jail.
Once inside the prison, your character will be in the yard wearing their prison outfit. You will see a timer on the left side of the screen, which indicates how much jail time you have left. You can interact with other inmates in the yard and there’s an NPC whom you can pay to either escape or start a riot.
Being brought to prison by the police and interacting with inmates does add to the immersion, but the mod leaves a lot to be desired. Cops won’t physically apprehend and haul you into their mobile. The mod just makes you lose control of your character, forcing you to get inside the car. In addition, you can’t get inside a jail cell as the entire prison just consists of the yard.
Great idea but poor execution
Developed by one person, GTA 5 Prison Mod doesn’t have any of the polish you will usually see in add-ons created by a studio or even just a small team. It has a great idea but it completely flunks the execution. If you want a truly immersive prison simulation, you’re better off trying other well-made mods such as Prison Life.
