A charming ground-digging game for mobile
Ground Digger is a free adventure game for mobile that was developed by Homa Games. It’s a casual title that mixes elements of exploration and mining elements into its gameplay. In it, players control a digging vessel making their way through the Earth’s layers and see how far they can reach.
Ground Digger has some similarities to Terraria when it comes to its gameplay premise. The latter is more expansive and lets players do more and see more. Meanwhile, the former takes on a more focused approach, which lends itself well to a casual, arcade-like gaming experience while on the go.
Journey to the Earth’s core
In Ground Digger, you take on the role of a would-be explorer who sets out to explore the vast reaches of Earth’s inner core and see how far you can go with only the help of your digging vessel at your disposal. You’ll start off with a fairly modest machine to get you going, but there are various customization and upgrades available as you progress.
Your starting vessel in Ground Digger will let you carve out the ground block-by-block in any direction. Be mindful of your fuel reserves as it will determine how long you can keep digging. Along the way, there will be hidden fuel tanks buried underneath the ground, as well as precious gems. You can use these jewels to purchase perks like miner bots to help you in your endeavor.
You can also use the coins you’ll earn to upgrade your machine to cover more area and to run longer—crucial as you pass through ice and lava to the Earth’s core. The game is simple but quite fun to play. The ads are too frequent and get rather intrusive, though. They appear way too much, breaking the momentum and taking some of the enjoyment away from the gameplay.
Block-by-block
All in all, Ground Digger is a fun arcade-adventure game with intuitive controls and a charming presentation. It’s great for short bursts of casual gaming while on the go. It’s challenging and offers enough perks and customization options to keep you going and make you want to try for another run. Recommended.
