GRIS is an action-adventure game developed by Devolver Digital for desktop and mobile. As the definition of the title suggests when translated in multiple languages, everything in here turns gray as the young girl named Gris lost her voice—and at the same time all the colors in the world have faded out because of the painful experiences. Thus, you will join her on the journey towards her healing. The game contains an aesthetically-beautiful art design, as well as a symphonic music score that is pleasing to the ears. It is also played with almost no text. It only provides simple control reminders depicted through universal icons that enable you to enjoy playing this game, regardless of the language you speak.

Varied gameplay levels and gesture-based controls

All in all, there are four areas that you can encounter in this puzzle platformer game—Desert, Forest, Water, and Upside Down—and each area also corresponds to a certain color such as red, green, blue, yellow. Gris mirrors the stages of the protagonist’s grief and how she grows emotionally and gradually sees the world in a lighter way. When you start playing this game, you will only have few abilities—move around and jump. However, as the game progresses, you will develop new skills. 

Each game level you’ll experience is different from each other. It is possible that in hopping across platforms between sandstorms is involve in one stage level. Some levels let you face a giant bird, soar in the air through butterflies, collapse floors, watery trees, and even reverse gravity. Gris’ controls are gesture-based—which means you can touch anywhere to perform an action. For instance, if you want to move then you must touch the left side, and if you want to jump then touch the right side.

Gesture-based controls are considered much better than onscreen controls as you no longer need to ensure that your finger is touching the right control just to ensure that your character is in motion.
