Be the Greatest Cat Grandma in this Quirky Puzzle Platformer
Granny in Paradise is a single-player adventure video game that is part of the Super Granny series, a franchise of casual action and puzzle games that are very similar to the Lode Runner series. In Granny in Paradise, you play as the amazing Super Granny who must continue to save her cats from the nefarious Dr. Meow, even while she’s on vacation. The gameplay consists of classic platformer and puzzle-solving elements.
One Busy Granny
Developed and published by Sandlot Games, the Super Granny games are comprised of seven titles made for the PC platform. The first Super Granny set the stage for the series’ constant plot and setting. Meanwhile, Super Granny 2 was properly known as Granny in Paradise which continues the story of the first installment, but in a tropical setting this time. This game was given a spin-off in the form of Super Granny Winter Wonderland which has the same plot, but her plane instead takes her to a ski resort.
Super Granny 3 continues the story with Granny exploring a run-down European theme park to surprisingly rescue her arch-nemesis, the evil Dr. Meow, from the clutches of his even-more dastardly master, Mr. Fang. Super Granny 4, on the other hand, came with the biggest changes in the series and expanded the hilarious storyline even further. This time, Granny is aided by her old besties, Kamila and Margaret, to once again save her kitties.
In Super Granny 5, Granny gets shrunk by Dr. Meow and must face off new challenges as an itty-bitty granny. Finally, Super Granny 6 is the last official installment made for the series—however, it has no relation whatsoever to the events of Super Granny 5 because it goes off with an Alice in Wonderland-esque plot.
Deserves a Nice Vacation
Lots of changes had come to this franchise, but despite being only the second installment, Granny in Paradise paved the way to most of the fun features that the next several games inherited. In Granny in Paradise, Granny’s goal is to rescue her cats from bad guys and dogs and guide her precious kitties to safety. Like the other Super Granny games, players control Grany’s action by moving around the platforms, such as going left and right, climbing up and down ladders or vines, or interacting with in-game objects. You can also dig traps for bad guys coming after you, and even get hidden flowers that will give you bonus points for that level. The game equips you with a map that can help you in your missions.
There are five new worlds to go through and more than 170 levels to finish. The new features in this game are new items such as teleporters and moving platforms, and the all-new online high-score board. However, Granny in Paradise’s best contribution to the series is its built-in level editor. Platformer games have gradually allowed players to get creative and make their levels. Eventually, Super Granny 5 even allowed you to share your work with others.
A Cult Classic
It’s no wonder why this game and its series became a popular platformer in its time. While using a silly premise for a story, the gameplay is fast, fun, and challenging enough for players to be hooked. It can be tedious at times, with the gameplay getting repetitive after a while, but Granny’s humor and the amusing level editor can easily break up that monotony any time. If you like puzzle platformers and love sassy grandmas and cats, then this is a recommended game.
