Google Reader goes mobile!

Google Reader can no longer be downloaded. Take a look at NewsBlur instead.

Google Reader, the RSS reader of excellence, is now available for your Android phone.

Here at Softonic, we were actually a bit surprised that Android phones don’t come with Google Reader already installed – it is, after all, one of the most popular Google Tools out there. Never mind, it’s here now, and it’s just as impressive as you would expect.

The layout of Google Reader for Android is almost identical to the web-based version. Once you sync your accounts you’ll see all your folders and options exactly as you do online. Touch the folder to enter and read, and hit the menu button for further options. You’ll be able to sort, add to favorites and star, just as you would normally.

Google Reader for Android also allows you to add new subscriptions, unsubscribe from feeds you are no longer interested in, and move feeds from one folder to another. You’ll even be able to create new folders. As Google Reader for Android syncs with your online account, items you’ve read, favorited or modified will be automatically updated online and vice versa. The Google Reader settings aren’t extensive, but you will find that you’re able to do everything that you want via the menu buttons or by pressing and holding individual items.

Google Reader for Android is a must-have app for any users of Google’s amazing RSS service.
