An atmospheric adventure game about writing a story
Goodbye World is an adventure indie game about two friends who create indie games together. The player must progress through the game, playing 12 stages that represent chapters in the story that the protagonists are writing. These stages take the form of a puzzle platformer, interspersed with narrative elements involving the protagonists.
The puzzle platformer elements of the game take place on an in-game device, much like playing emulated games in VisualBoyAdvance. It also features a similar gameplay style to the original Super Mario Bros. games.
Create an indie game
The premise of Goodbye World follows two friends—programmer Kanii and graphics artist Kumade—as they embark on the creation of a new game. They have been making games together for a while now, but those games have not found any success, and the pair are hoping to finally create a game that will deliver the success they haven’t been able to find.
Story and puzzle platforming
The game takes place in two distinct ways—the story elements and the gameplay itself. The story elements include a lot of dialogue between Kanii and Kumade and take place in locations like their home and restaurants. The puzzle platformer part of the game takes place through an in-game handheld gaming device, much like a Nintendo GameBoy.
An immersive story game
Goodbye World features an immersive story that players who enjoy narrative-heavy games will likely find interesting. The puzzle-platformer elements of the game, while an authentic retro experience, may not prove to be particularly challenging or unique for players who are looking for a new platformer game to play. If platforming is not the priority, or if a rich story is what is required, Goodbye World should be an interesting prospect.
