A lightweight but versatile video editor
GOM Mix Max is a video editing software that enables you to easily create cool video effects and turn your video projects into professional-looking work. Developed by GOM & Company, this multimedia program features various options for video-editing effects, as well as powerful tools to help you edit your video files.
Similar to other video editors, GOM Mix Max has a wide range of features and sources you can freely use for your edits. However, it’s designed to be a lightweight software so PCs can easily run it. This program has both a free version and paid version.
Easy on your PC
Just like the developer’s other program, GOM Mix Pro, GOM Mix Max provides an easy way of editing video files. In particular, this is considered the upgraded version of GOM Mix Pro and has more multi-faceted functionalities, such as multi-tracks in the Timeline area and automatic audio extraction. It also provides a myriad of special effects like filters and shapes and even fonts, sounds, and images for more creative outputs. These are numerous, even in the free version.
What’s really great about this editor, though, is that it’s easy on devices despite offering powerful tools at your disposal. Additionally, it offers a way for you to customize the software interface. For one, you can change the location of the preview and menu area if you don’t like their placements. You can also set different hotkeys if you’re used to different keystrokes. The templates are even fully adjustable.
When you first launch the software, it will display a notice regarding your resolution if it’s not set to anything near the minimum of 1280 x 960. You can still use it easily but this means that some of the interface text will look a bit cropped—even after enabling full-screen mode. Regardless, after clicking “Okay”, you can start using it. It has built-in easy-to-follow tutorials for you, as well as buttons for the video tutorials and a user guide that will redirect you to a webpage.
No need to be confused with the controls
Once you start a new project, there are three main areas to be found on the workstation of GOM Mix Max: the Sources and Effects area, the Preview Panel, and the Timeline. The first two are on the left and right of the top half of the window—and their positions can be switched. Meanwhile, the Timeline has the whole bottom half of the window and has three default tracks, which you can add to. Simply import a media file to start editing.
The Sources and Effects area has four tabs: Clips, Effects, Overlay, and Transitions. This is the library where you’ll mainly get the free sources and it encompasses numerous options, like sample sounds, vignettes and frames, and various animation effects. The Preview Panel is where you can watch how your video plays out. Meanwhile, the Timeline is where you can string all clips, media files, and effects together.
Take note that there are two versions: the free version and the paid version. The free one has functional limitations but the first 15 days from when you first open it will let you use it to its fullest. It will only add a watermark to your finished projects. After the 15th day, however, it will not only add a watermark but also limit you to 10 minutes of encoding time. The pro version, on the other hand, will unlock these restrictions and add more functionality.
A great choice for easy editing
All in all, GOM Mix Max is a versatile editing program that doesn’t sacrifice performance for more features. With an intuitive and highly customizable interface, it allows you to create video projects with ease. It also offers a wide variety of options and settings that both beginners and veterans at video-editing would appreciate. While its interface text doesn’t always automatically adjust to your screen resolution, that’s not too much of a hindrance to using the software itself.
