Zombie mod for Doom II
GL2050 Mod is a free-to-use game utility developed by user tontonmayonnaise. In this custom add-on for the first-person shooter (FPS) classic Doom II, you get to fight hordes of the undead in an aesthetic reminiscent of 80s Italian zombie movies like the Gates of Hell series and the Hell of the Living Dead. Featuring an all-new, cartoonish visual, it feels like a gameplay experience closer to Duke Nukem 3D.
By building on the original GZDOOM engine, GL2050 Mod manages to create an entirely original experience. You can also check out Mortal Kombat Doom (Zandronum) Mod or the Solace Dreams Mod.
A wacky apocalypse experience
The first thing you’d notice with the GL2050 Mod is its graphics. It feels similar to old-school cartoons, with the zombies having green skin, tattered clothes, white eyes, and dropping jaws. Additionally, you can blast them and expect the good old gore, but mostly in green and brown. Even your first-person perspective, shown in the hand holding the weapon, has been modified to fit the new aesthetic.
In terms of content, it has a good amount of it from story to custom skins and textures as mentioned before. The premise is that a mysterious purple goo has turned everyone into mindless zombies. You play as a scientist, who somehow gains access to stronger and more outrageous weapons as you proceed. All of the weapons are also custom skinned.
Lastly, there are a lot of NPC characters you can interact with, as well as secret areas. The only setback for an app this fun is the volume of content it has. There are only a few levels available and only six weapons currently available. As you enjoy blasting aliens across buildings and alleys, you might not notice that the game is already at its end.
Great homage to cheesy horror films
GL2050 Mod is fresh, even for regular players of Doom II mod. Its overall aesthetic is based upon 80s zombie films, and the way it executes the designs and the animations also create an entirely immersive experience. It even has its own story, making it feel like a different game altogether. As you enjoy it though, you can progress the game too fast and find yourself looking for more content.
