Inside the Belly of the Beast
Give Me Your Coins is a side-scrolling game created by Steppe Hare Studio. The game is about escaping from inside a living treasure chest.
All About Action
Steppe Hare Studio is an independent game developer that aims to hone their game developing skills while keeping in touch with their community. They have published games like SpellFront, Mother Simulator and Irony on Nightmare. Give Me Your Coins has a similar aesthetics to the classic side-scroller browser game N. Players are depicted as a tiny character, coins are scattered in a large environment, hazards are everywhere and the exit is across the danger-ridden platforms.
Skill Based Performance
The game is set inside the living and enchanted Evil Chest. Players take the role of a treasure hunter and they are devoured inside the wooden chest. They have to work their way out of the beast’s belly and defeat the Evil Chest. Inside of the chest is several dozen levels with elaborate traps, patrolling monsters and platforms. The controls are very simple to learn but it has fast-paced gameplay. Simpler controls focus entirely on dexterous and acrobatic navigation similar to parkour. Players can perform wall jumps, sliding and momentum-driven leaps of faith to hasten themselves, as well as gather gold in an optimal way. Players must have precision and momentum to overcome each stage hazards, outsmart monsters, collect gold, acquire the keys, head to the exit and win the game. There is also a time limit that pushes players to hurry up and reach the exit. Collecting ton loads of gold is the only method to defeat the Evil Chest once and for all. Deaths and game overall stem up from player mishaps and it will frustrate anyone who wants a perfect gameplay and even speedrunners. The level difficulty increases are more traps become elaborate and paths become too narrow. This encourages players to learn and play harder similar to older games. The side-scroller game includes a World Leader Board where players compete to have the best performance, from clear time to the most gold coins gathered. There are individual Leader Boards for each level for specific challenges.
Dare to Escape
Give Me Your Coins can be compared to classics like N and Super Meat Boy since it challenges players to hone their side-scrolling skills while facing the difficulty that involves trial and error. The most cathartic victory lies on beating the hardest level over and over again and not on instant gratification.
