A free combat strategy game
Ghost Recon: Wildlands HQ is a free-to-play action and strategy game that also serves as a mobile companion app for the shooter game Ghost Recon: Wildlands on PC and gaming consoles. Also developed by Ubisoft, this app not only helps you gather resources on a different device but also gives you more information about the world behind the game.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands HQ is a companion app, designed to supplement a larger game, usually on another device. This makes it similar to FIFA 22 Companion or Assassin’s Creed Unity Companion, letting players stay on top of their teams, even on the go.
Understand the Wildlands better
Unlike previous entries in the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon franchise, Ghost Recon: Wildlands HQ is based on the modern world, featuring weapons and vehicles similar to their real-world counterparts. With the companion app, you can better understand the lay of the land and create plans once you return to playing the shooting game on your consoles. The same goes with the app, maintaining a sense of realism throughout its various features.
Its Ghost Satellite View offers a real-time map synchronized with your game progress. Control-wise, it gives a feeling of being in technical support to your soldiers from the main game. You can drag to zoom the map or check the icons on the screen for resources and hostiles. Unfortunately, the game is plagued by connectivity issues, which would ask you to reconnect a couple of times every now and then.
There’s also a mini-game where you follow the gripping story of Bowman, a spy left behind enemy lines. You strategically move between cities, towns, and key locations to consolidate the revolutionary army. This is a great break from shooting and planning, although it feels disjointed since there’s no shooting involved in this option. You only make choices between characters and watch the story unfold.
A valuable add-on
If you’re playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands on consoles, Ghost Recon: Wildlands HQ is a valuable addition to your gaming experience. Even when you’re on the road, you can continue farming and strategizing, making your shooting experience smoother when you come back. Even if you don’t, there’s an immersive story in the mini-game, although it lacks the action of the base game.
