A fast-paced car combat game for PC

FUMES is a free action game created by indie developer tarkovsky for PC. In this car-themed title, players will take control of various vehicular contraptions armed with all kinds of weapons. They will battle it out and survive waves of enemies, all looking for a piece of scrap.

FUMES’ presentation bears quite the similarities with Max Max and Crossout. All three are set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and places emphasis on vehicular traversal and combat. What makes it unique is that it utilizes PS1-style low-polygon graphics that give it a distinct look and presentation.

Instant Mad Max vibes

If you’ve seen or heard of Mad Max and any of its various iterations before, you’ll instantly see the similarities between it and this car combat game called FUMES. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland featuring tricked-out rides packing all manner of firepower, ready to take on enemy vehicles at a moment’s notice. The fact that it boasts PS1-style graphics just adds to its gruff and rugged presentation.

FUMES features 10 cars to choose from, each with its own unique characteristics. You can also customize them using a built-in editor. Once you’ve settled on a ride, you can then proceed with rigging it with the weapon of your choice, of which there are 8 different types. Set out and face waves of enemies, all itching to get a piece of you, across 3 distinct locations and environments.

What’s more, there are even 11 bosses with powerful rides and weapons to defeat and turn to scrap. Controls are handled by a keyboard/mouse combo, with gamepad support still in the works. Now, before you give this game a shot, just know that it is still in the early pre-alpha stage of development. As such, expect more fixes and possibly even additional content to arrive in future updates.

Survive the harsh and unforgiving road

FUMES is an interesting entry in the car combat genre and has the potential to be something really great. Its gameplay is fun and challenging, offers plenty of customization, and a decent number of cars. It is also presented in retro PS1 styling for that nostalgia effect. This is a game you should watch out for as its development progresses. Highly recommended.
