Premium stealth survival horror
Follia – Dear Father is a paid adventure experience from Real Game Machine. This survival horror game focuses on stealth as it puts you in the middle of a seemingly harmless university campus. You play as Marcus who goes in search of his parents. What starts out as a missing persons search soon turns into a fight for survival as you discover what the university halls are hiding.
With its use of atmospheric horror that makes the game both immersive and difficult, Follia – Dear Father is definitely worth a shot. Similar games include Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Call of Cthulhu.
Difficult yet engaging university experience
The game Follia – Dear Father paints universities in a different, exciting light. Its impressive set designs revamp usual campus locations and turn them into something straight out of your nightmares. In true horror fashion, expect most of the lights in this game to be nonfunctional. The little lights that are there, only serve to heighten the tension. As such, be ready for a horror game more difficult than most.
Speaking of horror, it uses a variety of tricks to keep you on your toes. It has generous amounts of gore, flickering lights, massive near-unbeatable monsters, and a good dose of jumpscares. This variety of content makes the game fun and immersive. It’s a bit harder than other titles, but it keeps you hooked on the story. It continuously dangles the question of whether your parents are still alive.
Going back to the difficulty, players have complained about certain aspects that make it far more difficult. Aside from the extreme scarcity of useful materials, your most reliable tool is the flashlight that’s cursed with extremely low battery life. This makes the game aggravating when combined with the bugs, such as movement and clipping. You get stuck on doors and fall on floors.
Scary but buggy
As far as horror games go, Follia – Dear Father has a lot of stuff going on. It makes effective use of its premise, which goes well with the choice of location and set designs. The game even manages to juggle multiple horror elements with such balance that remains scary and surprising even in the late game. Unfortunately, it suffers from execution issues that leave the game full of bugs.
