Complex firewall configuration and management tool
Having a decent Firewall installed in Windows is essential and the one that comes pre-installed with XP and Vista isn’t exactly sophisticated.
Firewall Builder is a multi-platform firewall configuration and management tool which consists of a GUI and compilers. It’s aimed at helping administrators maintain a firewall database by using simple drag-and-drop operations. Despite this, Firewall Builder’s not really designed for beginners – Firewall Builder requires knowledge of such things as iptables, ipfilter, OpenBSD as well as Cisco PIX and Cisco IOS extended access lists.
There is however an extensive user guide that’s worth studying because it explains in detail how to get to grips with it. Firewall Builder’s also ideal for those that need to build than more than one Firewall as it allows you to manage multiple instances in once interface. The general interface isn’t particularly slick or well designed but it’s not terrible either. In addition, the amount of technical jargon both in the user guide and developer site make it a rather inaccessible app for those new to Firewalls.
Firewall Builder is strictly for those that are already comfortable with the technicalities of Firewalls and need a cross-platform solution.
fixes #2395 “Crash when setting installer directory location” and fixes #2396 “Crash when changing firewall name”. These two bug reports where the manifestation of the same problem that was introduced by the fix for #2380. When user hitsOK in the newFirewallDialog and new firewall object was added to the object tree, any editing of the parameters of this new object would cause GUI to crash.
