Send messages to Twitter and Facebook from the Firefox status bar

If you’re constantly opening the Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed websites to check for new messages, this plug-in will probably save you lots of time.

With FireStatus you can send new messages to Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed from the browser’s status bar, no matter where you are on the Web at the time. What’s more, you can also receive updates from your contacts on those three social websites, displayed on Firefox in small notification windows like the ones you see when there’s a new version.

FireStatus also includes the possibility to automatically shorten any web addresses you enter in the text field, something particular important in the case of Twitter updates. However there’s no explanation as how to use this feature, so I couldn’t figure out how to shorten the URL and ended up with both the original and shortened versions on my tweet.

FireStatus also lets you configure the time interval between updates, and, in case you get too flooded with messages, a simple right-click on the extension’s icon at the bottom right corner of the browser’s interface will be enough to pause notifications.

With FireStatus you can send new messages and receive updates from the most popular social networks: Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed.
