Underwater adventure for ZX Spectrum 128
Federation: Underwater. The legend of the Three Trololo Kings is a free-to-play adventure from Furillo Productions. This ROM game was created for the ZX Spectrum 128, letting you explore a world similar to your world — but mostly underwater. Known as Earth-2, you will be tasked with stopping an invasion that threatens this world, as well as yours.
Federation: Underwater. The legend of the Three Trololo Kings is an original game made for the discontinued 1980s gaming console, featuring original content and story. Other games for the retro gaming platform include Space Invaders and Marbles Squared.
An interactive RPG
Federation: Underwater. The legend of the Three Trololo Kings lets you play as the anti-hero Peter Parrish who pilots an amphibious spaceship to navigate the alien ocean world. Face enemies from the invading Zork Federation as well as hostile beings from Earth-2. This compelling premise somehow justifies the extreme difficulty of the game — a feature common to the games of the time.
Also as a game made for a retro gaming platform, the game requires you to have either a supported emulator for ZX Spectrum 128 or the actual physical console itself. The microcomputer, however, was discontinued in 1992 and is fairly hard to come by. Aside from that, it functions as an original cartridge. It is plug-and-play and immediately sends you to the home screen.
While it has the same difficulty as most games of the time, developers are not so harsh as to implement a one-hit kill mechanic. You have energy points that decrease with damage and can be restored at certain points in the game. Lastly, the download package also includes a well-crafted Art Book for you to enjoy. It gives players a greater insight into the lore surrounding the game.
A compelling story with great content
Overall, Federation: Underwater. The legend of the Three Trololo Kings is a definite must-try. Whether you’re into retro games for the ZX Spectrum or are looking for games with a great story and premise, this will not disappoint. The only limitations, however slight, are its need for an emulator and the high difficulty right from the start. Still, this game is highly recommended.
