A free walking simulator in a renowned Japanese shrine

The Fushimi Inari Taisha game is a recreation of the Japanese shrine of the same name. It is very detailed and rather realistic, including realistic lighting and atmosphere.

A recreation of the place and its local environment

The game allows you to take photos of the shrine and the area, which seems like a gimmick, but it helps you appreciate the level of detail that went into this recreation. The details such as the veins in the leaves in the plants or the tiny decorations on the lanterns are all further exposed as you zoom in to take photos.

A relaxing walking simulator

There is not a lot to do. What you will find is a very realistic recreation of everything from the gravel next to the paving on the ground, to the city in distance. Each scene looks like a photo in its own right, but then as you move, you see the amount of work that went into what is essentially a tour of a Japanese shrine. Nobody gets to see all the world’s monuments, and games like this are probably the closest we will get to recreating such places as perfectly as possible.

Something to help your meditation

If you are into things like active imagination techniques, or active dreaming, then this sort of game may help you out. You may even like to enter a meditative state while playing the game.

Seems unfair calling it a game

Calling it a game suggests there is something to do, but it is just a walking simulator. It is an experience, which is great because it is free; it is a worthwhile experience.
