Action roguelite with deep combat
Ember Knights is a premium action game coming from developer Doom Turtle. It’s a 2D isometric roguelite that is set in a fantasy medieval world wherein players will take control of legendary knights. They stand as humanity’s last hope against a mad sorcerer spreading corruption throughout the land.
Akin to other games like Hades or The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Ember Knights offers nonstop action across multiple unique biomes that hosts all kinds of different enemies, and features a robust weapon and skill system for variable combat. It can be played either solo or in four-player online co-op modes.
An arsenal of weapons
Ember Knights takes place in a fantasy world being terrorized by a mad sorcerer named Praxis. He has stolen the life force from the Ember Tree and has fled to the Prime Worlds, spreading destruction and corruption in his wake. You are one of the legendary knights tasked with pursuing this evil and putting a stop to his madness to restore peace to the land.
Play solo or with three others in this action game as you face a vast horde of enemies consisting of beasts, specters, and even mechanized creatures, to name a few. Each of you wields six weapon types with nine mods. They are further enhanced with 17 skills and 85 relics that add different effects and bonuses. Combat is where you can really experiment and try combinations out.
The game’s distinct bosses require you to discover different synergies to find the most effective attack that deals the most damage. Dodge, counter, and stun your way to victory. For all the positives about it, though, there is one area where it falls short, and that’s length and replayability. Right now, there’s just not much content for players to sink their teeth into.
A good start
Overall, Ember Knights is a fun and engaging action roguelite with a deep and diverse combat system. There are plenty of play styles to experiment with to find one that best suits you or the bosses you’ll face. The game is a bit on the short side and could use more. Nevertheless, this one is well worth checking out and playing. Recommended.
