Twitter extension for Firefox
Popular Firefox extension Twitterfox has a new name: Echofon. It’s not just a name change, but a redesign with extended features too.
The visual changes might not please everyone – Echofon doesn’t look as friendly as before, it’s now colder with a slick silver grey interface. It still works like before though, so Twitterfox users won’t have any problems.
Click on the circular logo in the Firefox statusbar, and the Echfon interface pops up. You can read new tweets, and post your own. It does most of what can do from the Twitter homepage, except viewing your or other people’s profiles. Retweeting, replying and copying tweets is a cinch. Links are shortened where necessary, and there are tabs so you can view your mentions and personal messages.
Right clicking the Echofon Logo opens a context menu where you can toggle pop up alerts, switch between accounts and access the preferences.
In Preferences you can set how often Echofon will update (it’s not live), and configure alerts. You can also manage and add multiple Twitter accounts from here, as well as choose from a small selection of themes. If you use Echofon on an iPhone, it will sync with Firefox so you won’t see read tweets as new.
Echofon is one of our favorite Twitter apps. It’s stable, fits in perfectly with browsing and doesn’t take up room on your desktop. For Firefox users, Echofon is an essential add-on.
