A free and easy way to rename your files
Easy Rename allows you to select a number of files or folders, and then use a “Replace” function that affects all selected files or folder.
Change a large number of file names very quickly
Let’s say you have a series of photos that each have the date on. You do not want to rename them all manually, so you select something that they all have in common (the date in their name), and you replace it with something else such as “Vacation Picture 2019.” It only replaces the text you enter into the tool, which means you may select a wide range of files, but only have this tool affect the files with the correct text within them. For example, if you have photo files from a Samsung that say Samsung on them, and you also have photos taken with a Sony camera and with Sony in the name, then you may alter all the Samsung ones by entering “Samsung” in the “Filename Contains” field, and then specifying your change without affecting the Sony files.
Remarkably simple and sadly lacking
Easy Rename is a fine tool for people who wish to take parts of their many files and rename them. You can bulk select your files and rename them all manually without this tool, but if you want to do things such as change a single word on each file, or maybe change a number or date on them all, then this tool helps you make the changes very quickly. The sad part is that with just a bit more coding, the developers could have added more customization tools and could have made this a genuinely good productivity app; it is a shame they stopped after adding just one function to this app.
