Brave the unknown land of Draheim

Drova is a free role-playing video game wherein you must bring back an important document from an unfamiliar place. Developed by Just2d, this 2D pixelated indie game tells the story of a novice member on his first mission, which should be an easy one. However, it soon turns deadly and now he must dive into uncharted territory. The game features an interesting 360° combat that employs versatile mechanics with different types of weapons.

Map out the world

In Drova, the mysterious Order of the Red Tower is an organization most people are wary of. You play as a novice member, who has been tasked with the duty of retrieving a report for the Order. This is your first mission and, while the location you’re being sent to is still an unfamiliar area for most, it should be easy to complete. However, you soon find out that your contact is missing—and with him, the report.

To move around, use the WASD keys. Then, move your mouse to look in the direction of the cursor. This allows you to either jog forward or walk backward—which can also affect how you fight. You can only attack in the direction you’re facing and dodging will make you jump in the opposite direction of your cursor. To enter a fighting stance, press R to unsheath your weapons.

You can equip two sets of weapons and freely switch between them with the Q key. The left mouse button is for attacking and the right is for blocking with a shield. You can also execute combos whenever the cursor turns into a gold fist while attacking. However, while in the fighting stance, you can’t interact with objects and NPCs so make sure to sheath your weapons when collecting your loot.

Duck and weave to survive

Overall, Drova has interesting combat mechanics, which really elevates its fun. The plot and writing can be a bore at times—especially because there are no unique character sprite animations to make scenes feel alive—but mastering the different fighting styles can be an enjoyable experience. It would be nice if the game had configurable settings like keybindings, though. Nevertheless, this is a highly recommended game for any RPG fans to try out.
