Relax in this tiny open world
Drive Me To The Moon is a free simulation that lets you drive around a small, picturesque location. Developed by Olivia Haines, this indie game is a relaxing open-world experience allowing you to cruise in a pastel-colored world. It has no conflict mechanics and no enemies, just you and a friend and a convertible to go around in.
With the simple experience it offers, Drive Me To The Moon feels like a watered-down counterpart for the exploration-focused travel sim Valley Peaks. Graphics-wise, this game has some Untitled Goose Game vibes.
Escape to a peaceful world
In Drive Me To The Moon, you drive a car around a brightly-colored environment. It feels like a place in the middle of nowhere since driving in a single direction leads to an endless expanse that feels like sand or space, depending on your perspective. It creates a generally inviting atmosphere and helps with the relaxing feel from the game.
As a video game, there’s not much to do. If you’re looking for quests to do or enemies to defeat, this is geared toward a different direction. It just lets you roam around, with the only characters available being the blonde driver and her blue-haired companion. This premise of two women driving around with no clear direction is a very welcome parallel to the classic film Thelma & Louise.
In terms of the playthrough, it actually depends on the player. There’s a scenario that resembles an ending scene with the theater. Otherwise, you can just drive all over–practice your driving skills, enjoy the details and the colors of the environment, or just cruise to the relaxing lo-fi music. The game uses simple, repeating background music that adds to the cute and chill vibes the overall aesthetic was going for.
A short, fun experience
Although it doesn’t have a story in the traditional sense, nor does it feature conflicts or enemies, Drive Me To The Moon is a unique simulator experience. Its graphics, gameplay, and music all work together to create a simplistic yet relaxing game. You’re free to fill in the details on who the characters are or where this town is located. Try it at least once.
