Endless fun with a bouncing alien
Doodle Jump casts you as a little green man in a cartoon sketchpad world. The object of the game is to get as high as you can up the scrolling screen by bouncing on platforms. If you miss a platform and fall off then the game is over.
Doodle Jump has been one of the most popular games in the app store for some time – and it’s easy to see why. It has what we like to call the ‘just one more game’ factor, in the sense that it’s very difficult to put down.
The controls in Doodle Jump are very simple. You tilt the iPhone from side to side to move the character left and right, and tap the screen to fire at the baddies. Other obstacles in Doodle Jump include tears in the paper and disappearing platforms. To help you get more height, you’ll find springs, trampolines and rocket pads that launch you soaring into the stratosphere.
The graphics and sounds in Doodle Jump are cute and quirky, although there’s not much variety in terms of the gameplay. That said, there is a multiplayer mode in Doodle Jump that allows you to take part in races against your friends over WiFi to see who can reach the top first, which is great fun.
Despite its very repetitive nature, Doodle Jump is one of those games that you’ll intend to play for a couple of minutes but end up stuck on for hours.
