Create the pixelated world of your dreams
Discovery Lite – Quest Edition is a free action video game wherein you can explore a procedurally generated voxel world made of blocks. Developed by noowanda, this virtual reality sandbox indie game is the lite version of Discovery—both available on the Oculus Quest, PC, and mobile.
Similar to Minecraft, Discovery Lite features a vast and seamless terrain that can be your playground for whatever crafting or building project you want. You can also play its online multiplayer mode and even share your world with others—although take note that these features aren’t as good as the full version’s.
All about art and creation
Just like other voxel art games, Discovery Lite – Quest Edition offers over 150 pixelated materials for you to use—and these aren’t limited to just blocks. You can also use spheres and tubes to give your creations a more distinct look. Your world is procedurally generated and practically infinite but it is teeming with wildlife. However, the game doesn’t include Survival Mode like other voxel games.
Instead, this is a sandbox game that just lets you build to your heart’s content so the animals around you are simply setpieces. Aside from blocks, you also have access to electric circuits that let you play with light sensors, switches, wires, and light bulbs. This allows for more unique builds as you can create colored blocks and lights to accentuate the game’s beautiful day and night cycles.
There’s also an online multiplayer mode and a built-in world gallery. However, these aren’t as extensive as those from the full version of the game. This lite version is identical to that but has some locked features. Unfortunately, it won’t be updated anymore after the full version is released. However, you can still play it—just load the game either into SideQuest or Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
Won’t be supported all the time
All in all, Discovery Lite – Quest Edition is an interesting VR game that sandbox game fans can come to appreciate. While the multiplayer mode isn’t at its best compared to the full version, it’s still easy to play and enjoy. However, you’ll have to switch to that version if you want more updates on this game as the lite version will be deprecated after its release.
