Catalog your photos using this powerful tool

Once your photo collection tops a hundred, it’s about time to look at some options for keeping it under control. The better organized it is, the easier it will be to give your images the attention they deserve and allow you to get the most out of your collection.

Digital Photo Cataloger is a program that will help you do just this, especially if you are a fan of correctly tagging each photo. It works by searching your photo files and creating individual databases where each photo is represented by a thumbnail. You can then manage each photo individually, search by various parameters, add tags, edit metadata, rate images and flag them.

The Digital Photo Cataloger interface is intuitive and customizable. You can reduce the two information panels at either side, leaving you with a full-window display of your photos. You’ll get basic information on each by rolling over, and, if you double click on a thumbnail, see the image in full-screen glory. The information bar on the right of the screen contains all the information you could want about your photos, from the technical specifications to the user data and IPTC details. Digital Photo Cataloger’s configuration options aren’t exactly extensive, but when I was using the program, it didn’t really strike me as a problem.

Among the program’s best features is its extensive search function. Digital Photo Cataloger can search and refine by loads of categories, as well as providing an explorer bar and date search that allows you to refine by month and year. In all, Digital Photo Cataloger is an excellent program for someone with a lot of photos who wants greater control. The more options you have to categorize your images, the more you can make of them, and in terms of organizational power, you can’t do much better than Digital Photo Cataloger.

Digital Photo Cataloger makes sorting, tagging and searching your images a total breeze.
