Downhill mountain biking game

Descenders is a fast-paced sports game that will have you race down a mountain with your bike. In this game, you will engage in extreme downhill biking with high-end 3D graphics. Not only that but each level is procedurally generated, giving you a different experience in each race.

How you play Descenders is entirely up to you. You can choose the easiest route to the boss jump or take the extra course to earn more rep points. Control-wise it is almost like skateboarding games. However, it applies a roguelike system that sends you to the start if you crash.

What is Descenders?

The Descenders game offers a refreshing take on downhill mountain biking. Here, you race through grass fields, woods, and obstacle jumps in the first or third person to complete an entire run. Then, you will face a boss level—a steep and challenging course that ends in a gargantuan mega-jump. Each level varies in design due to its procedurally generated nature. With this, no two runs are the same.

How you play the game is up to you. You can pedal down the course to get to the boss level fast or take a detour to gain more rep—the game’s XP. The more rep you gain, the more health you earn. It also lets you sign with a sponsor to enter exclusive races and compete on the global leaderboard. Of course, this also allows you to unlock cosmetic items.

The game employs a roguelike system requiring you to start from the beginning if you crash. However, there are multiple checkpoints that, if passed through, will act as respawn locations after bailouts. However, mastering the game will be near impossible due to its ever-changing course. Crashing will also take one health point and a couple of hundred rep. Worse, quitting before the boss level also incurs a rep penalty.

Is the game good?

Overall, Descenders is a punishing, fast-paced, and stunt-focused game. However, despite that its core gameplay is pure and simple. Each level is so well-crafted, with its procedurally generated map presented with great scenery. Unfortunately, the procedural generation robs the players of the chance to dive into and master the game. Each run will be as challenging as your first time on the course.
