Free-to-play running game
Crowd Evolution! is a free-to-play running game from LonghornGames. This arcade game allows you to build your own army across time. Gain more people by finding them along the way. More importantly, you can upgrade your troops by passing through gates that move them forward (or backward) in time. Get more soldiers and gain stronger weapons before you face off with the boss.
Crowd Evolution! easily steps above the rest of the games in this genre. Still, it shares a lot of similarities with games such as Canvas Run or Iron Suit: Superhero Simulator.
Watch armies through time
The first thing to notice is how Crowd Evolution! feels largely unoriginal. Its game mechanics of running through good and bad gates, and having to avoid obstacles, are common fare for a lot of running games developed for mobile devices. Still, its partly historical concept makes it more enjoyable than most, especially for fans of warriors and armors and stuff.
Additionally, this game also takes the time to incorporate increasingly difficult stages. As you go further, the running speed increases, as well as the risks and rewards for the gates. This high-risk, high-reward nature makes the game more exciting and addictive. For this one, you also get to evolve your army from a ragtag group of prehistoric men to a troop of elite robot soldiers.
Unfortunately, the game suffers from the same restrictions as other running games, and more. It is also infested with too frequent ads, some of them unskippable. Additionally, there are bugs that keep players from enjoying the game for long. In worse cases, the game crashes after running a couple of stages. Players also report the app freezing mid-game, requiring you to restart the app, only to encounter the same problem.
Needs more fixes
Crowd Evolution! manages to subvert certain expectations players might have about similar running games, but it still suffers to most issues the genre has. Granted, its premise is different from most games and manages to keep the game exciting through increasing difficulty. However, to make it truly exciting, it still needs to address its issues, particularly those regarding game crashes and freezes.
