Coexist Forever takes platform gaming in a horrific new direction

Coexist Forever is a free platform game based on the YouTube character Haachama. Guide the heroine through a series of increasingly weird settings.

A platformer with a horrific twist

The main character in Coexist Forever is a scribbled protagonist, the YouTube character. Her world of flowers and animals is not as safe as it might seem, however: if you tread in the wrong place, you will fall into a pit of spikes and explode in a fountain of animated blood. And still stranger things will progress through the game’s horrific storyline.

Between dream and nightmare

Although it starts out looking like a typical platformer in the vein of Super Mario Bros Level 1-1, Coexist Forever turns out to have a twist on the genre. After a certain point, the game-world will begin distorting and filling with horrific elements. Once-safe objects like flowers will now kill the main character, and the sunny setting will become a nightmare. The storyline is similar to horror games like Neighbor, although the gameplay style is very different.

Trickier than it looks

Coexist Forever can be tricky to play. The controls cause the main character to skid around, making it hard to avoid obstacles, and until you access “Haachama Vision,” it is largely down to guesswork as to which objects are safe and which are fatal. But the game makes up for these shortcomings with its quirky inventiveness and sense of humor .

A quirky sense of humour

Coexist Forever is a good title for anybody who prefers their platform game to have an offbeat sense of humor. It is filled with amusing elements, from the gibberish noises the main character makes when she jumps to the dark humor of the nightmare world. Its target audience is people who are familiar with the Haachama YouTube character; if you do not fit this category, then you may miss some of the jokers, but the game will remain playable.
