Video effects within iChat

ChatFX is an unusual plugin that adds a bit of spark to your iChat, making it feel like the new version of the conferencing program for Leopard. ChatFX appears at the bottom of your iChat window. We were impressed by the number of effects you can choose from to add to your iChat background. Underwater scenes, landscapes, TV sets, black lights, you name it ChatFX has it. The ChatFX plugin even features the famous blue screen effect.

On the downside, ChatFX those feel unstable at times. You can create and add new effects using Quartz Composer, but it’s a shame you can’t add these directly from ChatFX. If you’re looking to spice up your chats, this little plugin is well worth a try.

ChatFX brings outstanding visual effects to iChat that are practical but also incredibly fun. Kids love seeing the bluescreen and other fun effects. Adults find it makes video-conferencing more entertaining and a lot less intimidating.
