Build attack power with dice rolls
Cactus WimpOut is a free arcade game from developer Rogapol Interactive. It’s a dice game where you defeat a series of enemies by accumulating attack points based on dice combinations. You can acquire allies that offer different buffs along the way. It can be played on a browser or downloaded to a PC.
Cactus WimpOut is filled with colorful characters such as the protagonist Cactus Frank and the friends he can acquire along the way, namely CherryBomb Jubilee, Bell-Ringing Pepper, Bloobking, Co’la Cultist, White Knight Onion Knight, and Single Scoop. These potential allies offer HP bonuses and custom dice combinations.
Get the most out of opportunities
Like every dice game, Cactus WimpOut features a lot of randomness, or RNG, as gamers would call it. The mechanics can feel overcomplicated, especially if you’re playing on the browser version, which doesn’t have a proper tutorial. However, the game is simple once you learn the ropes. In each turn, you roll a set of dice to accumulate points, which will determine how much damage you deal to the enemy.
Only faces one and five have an intrinsic attack power, the rest have to be combined with others to score. You can also roll again a non-scoring dice for a chance to get more points, but you can lose your turn if you don’t get any scoring faces after rolling it again. There’s a lot of RNG, so it’s critical to make the most out of opportunities.
The graphics are not extraordinary, but it fits the game well. Character sprites are vibrant and colorful and the user interface is clean. However, the game only uses one soundtrack and it can get old really fast. There is no overarching plot that would keep you intrigued as you play, but the characters have some backstory. It’s not a flashy game but it’s simple enough to be enjoyed by everyone.
Is it worth playing?
Cactus WimpOut is perfect for killing time, but it’s not a game you would be looking forward to playing on the weekends. It’s missing a lot of features that you will find in bigger dice games like Ludo Star: Classic Dice Game. Still, it’s easy to learn and won’t demand much of your time. Download the game instead of playing on the browser for a better experience.
