Premium open-world adventure
Burn Me Alive is a paid adventure game developed by the team from ASDstudio. This collaborative effort between indie devs puts the player in the shoes of a mysterious character who soon realizes that his personal tragedy is a part of a larger, more sinister conspiracy. Pick up clues around you, with its nonlinear approach to gameplay and open-world elements allowing you to play as you like.
Whether you fight and blast the creatures or choose stealth and speed, Burn Me Alive is an engaging survival horror experience. It’s like an indie alternative to The Dark Occult or Dark Deception.
Scarier than most horror games
In terms of overall theme and premise, Burn Me Alive feels like the film Drag Me To Hell, but you get to fight back against the darkness that aims to consume you. The premise revolves more around revenge and finding answers after learning that there’s more to the main character’s tragedy. It uses this premise as a jump-off point in creating a world that is unsettling as it is unique.
Like most horror games, it also relies on poor or flickering lights. Players with photosensitivity conditions should take extra care especially since it instantly transitions from dark to bright in certain parts of the game. Also, it features some immersive animation tricks, such as objects suddenly moving or seeing your character, in first-person, being lifted or thrown with such realism.
Lastly, while this game is definitely a blast on its first playthrough, there’s not much to do after. You can try to switch up the order by which you do the quests and the puzzles, or explore the world, yet the final encounter will remain the same. Still, the atmospheric horror in this game is something that’s difficult to overcome.
A spine-chilling one-shot
As far as horror games go, Burn Me Alive is one of the titles you’d have to try once. One full run is good enough to experience its great graphics and immersive story. Aside from period set designs that capture unassuming urban settings infested with the occult, the game also features some neat animation tricks that make it additionally surprising and even more immersive.
