Born Punk Review: A Cyberpunk Thriller Adventure Game
Born Punk is an adventure game developed by Insert Disk 22 for Windows. The game is set in a futuristic world and follows the story of three characters – Eevi, a corporate combat hacker turned bartender; Mariposa, the CEO of Bornholm’s biggest corporation; and a malfunctioning android called Grandmaster Flashdrive. All three characters become possessed by mysterious entities and must work together to uncover the entities’ origins. The game features a classic point-and-click adventure experience with a distinct style, influenced by games like Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky.
The game world is alive with movement, soundscapes and small details to discover. Players can approach dialogues and puzzles from different angles, leading to choices and consequences. The game also boasts full voice-overs for every character, including the cat, and a bombastic cyberpunk/sci-fi soundtrack by composer Jeff Kurtenacker. Born Punk is science-fiction with heavy cyberpunk influences, but it also has a hopeful, often humorous undertone. The game offers a comprehensive universe with a slew of background information to read and experience, all of which becomes available in your PDA as you interact with the game world.
