A smarter way to manage your bookmarks
Google’s new Bookmark Manager Extension for the Chrome web browser not only simplifies the way you organize your bookmarks, but also presents them in a much more attractive and visual way.
Never lose a bookmark again
Installation is very easy. Simply visit the Bookmark Manager Extension homepage in Chrome, click on the blue plus button and then click “add” in the next dialog box. Then next time you visit a web page, the Bookmark Manager Extension is automatically enabled. So all you have to do to use it is start bookmarking pages (the bookmark button is a star at the right hand side of the URL box, which turns yellow when a page is bookmarked).
Normally when you bookmark a web page it is automatically added to a text list of your favorites, which you manually have to organize into folders. Bookmark Manager Extension completely turns this on its head.
When you press the bookmark button, it presents you with a small box, which contains an image of the site, a short description and the option to add it to a certain folder (or Google can automatically assign it a folder if you prefer). Other options include a recycle bin to easily delete the bookmark and the option to change the associated image. It’s a much more helpful and intuitive way to bookmark pages.
Then there is the bookmark homepage, which contains an attractive and easy grid view (with images). You can choose to see all items or just those from certain folders, as well as edit bookmarks (name, image etc) and delete them.
One of the most useful features here is search, which is not just a search of the titles and URL, but also the content of the webpage. So if you’ve bookmarked a page and can’t find it then simply search for it and you will see all related results.
Another interesting feature is the ability to set your bookmarks to public, which generates a link that you can share with friends.
Familiar look and feel
Considering that bookmarking is one the most used features in a browser, it has been pretty neglected in the past. While speed and privacy may be two of the defining features of a browser, bookmarking is a key secondary feature. Thankfully Google has changed this with Bookmark Manager Extension.
It’s simple to install and use and makes organizing your bookmarks so much easier. Never again will you bookmark page only for it to disappear into the ether never to be seen again. And if you can’t find it, all you need to do is search for it. The user interface is much more modern and the commands and options look similar to other Google products such as Google+ and Gmail. As well as the familiar Google look and feel, it is much more intuitive and makes sense in today’s visual world. The use of pictures is a handy reminder as to the subject of the web page you have bookmarked.
Useful new features
With Bookmark Manager Extension, Google has at last redesigned the bookmark experience, which had previously been a very outdated feature. The new features such as the smart search, auto folder organization, and sharing are welcome additions, while the user experience has been significantly enhanced.
