A demake of Sony’s highly-popular Bloodborne game
BloodbornePSX is a free action game for PC by indie developer LWMedia. It’s a fan-made demake of the highly-popular role-playing game by From Software called Bloodborne. This version takes on a more retro approach to its graphics and representation, harkening back to the days of the PS1.
As more Sony exclusives, like God of War, are making their way to PC, fans have yet to see an official port of the Bloodborne game. As of now, BloodbornePSX is the next best thing that they have to play the cult classic on their desktop rigs, with a unique charm of its own.
The demake no one knew they needed
Sony has a legendary catalog of console-exclusive titles, and Bloodborne is truly one of its best. Made by From Software, it featured a brutal and unforgiving difficulty, paired with tight combat and a unique gothic/victorian setting that still holds up to this day. Fans have been begging for an official PC port for many years now, and BloodbornePSX has come to answer the call, sort of.
This is a fanmade game with a twist—it’s a demade version that features PS1-style graphics. If you’ve played the original before, you’ll be surprised at just how shockingly similar this one plays. You still get the same variety of weapons to choose from to create your loadout. Controls support both mouse/keyboard combo and game controllers, but the latter just feels more “authentic” to use.
You even get thoughtful touches like options to reduce frame rates during intense boss fights and increase loading times to simulate the feel of PS1 gaming back in the day. One important thing to note is that it’s not a 1:1 replication of the original’s full campaign. It only covers Yharnam, the game’s first zone for its gameplay. It’s still plenty enough to offer a well-rounded experience, though.
The gothic slasher makes its way to PC, kinda
Given the official PC port releases of Sony exclusives in recent years, the possibility of seeing Bloodborne come out in the future is not completely out of the question. In the meantime, though, BloodbornePSX is an admirable effort and is the closest thing you’ll get to experience the original on your desktop rig. This is a must-play for any fan. Highly recommended.
