Tetris meets dungeon crawler
Blocky Dungeon is a demo game that combines the puzzle genre with a dungeon crawler. It lets you explore a dungeon that you create, Tetris-style. You will move, rotate, and place the dungeon rooms and corridors and go through them to collect treasures and items.
Unlike Tetris, however, Blocky Dungeon is more of a strategic puzzle than an action puzzle. The pieces do not drop in real-time but wait for you to place them. It is also less obviously colored, and completed lines do not clear automatically. Although, since it has two gameplays, the controls can be a bit tricky.
How do you play the game?
Blocky Dungeon is a fun game that extends the puzzle gameplay by adding dungeon crawler elements. As mentioned, the goal here is to create your dungeon where the knight can explore. Like Tetris, you will make every room and corridor by dropping the pieces one by one. Unlike the classic puzzle, however, there is no automatic drop rate for blocks. With this, you take your time placing your pieces.
Once you have enough room, you can switch to the knight and navigate the dungeon. As with other dungeon crawlers, you will be collecting gold and other items as you explore. Of course, there will also be enemies that you need to destroy. The twist is that your knight has only a set number of actions each turn. To replenish those, you need to drop blocks to the grid.
Before downloading the game, however, users must note that the controls are oddly confusing. There are two gameplays to this title, which means there will be two controls. Thankfully, there is a settings menu that allows you to switch controls as you play. Additionally, there is no undo button for a misplaced block. Of course, since the game is still in the demo stage, expect a shorter run time.
Is the game good?
Overall, Blocky Dungeon is a game that offers a really fascinating experience. It brings a unique challenge where you can simultaneously become both the dungeon designer and the player. In it, you can build blocks and navigate them. There are a few kinks here and there, but it does not take the fun out of the game. If anything, this demo can make players excited for the full release.
