Easy banking in India

BHIM – Making India Cashless is a free finance mobile app that lets you easily handle online payments. Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this app is an Indian mobile payment app designed to facilitate e-payments directly through banks and encourage cashless transactions. It is based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) but also allows you to transact with non-UPI-based accounts. Take note that this app’s services are only available in India.

Is BHIM a government app?

Short for “Bharat Interface for Money,” BHIM was created by the NPCI to allow users to have easier access to financial transactions through their mobile devices. It supports all Indian banks that use UPI, which can instantly transfer money between bank accounts. To check if your bank is supported, simply visit the service’s official website. You should also check just what your bank’s transaction limit is, as it may vary from BHIM’s own limit.

Before registering on the app, you should have your phone number linked to your bank account, as it is what you’ll be using to access the app. Your device should also have an active SIM linked to your account. In case you have a dual SIM, simply select the one associated with your account. You must have a valid debit card from your bank, as well, since this is needed to generate your UPI PIN

This app is similar to other online payment apps in its features. It offers the ability to pay for transactions, as well as utility bills. It also lets you scan a QR code to instantly pay at selected outlets. The app isn’t a digital wallet, however—it’s only meant for transferring money and being used as a portal for bank accounts to be easily accessible wherever and whenever. You can only have one active bank, though.

Reliable and user-friendly

All in all, BHIM – Making India Cashless is a great government-supported application for easy online banking. While it can only process transactions and not store any credits, it’s reliable enough to use—with seldom crashes happening. It’s just a shame that you can’t choose multiple bank accounts to transfer from and can only have one account active when using the app, though. Nevertheless, it’s a highly-recommended app that supports other UPI apps.
