A free narrative-driven walking simulator game
Be Somewhere Else is a free game released under the “name your own price” model. It is a narrative-driven game with an eerie and unsettling feel, though it is not a horror game in the sense that the player cannot be killed and isn’t in danger throughout the story.
The gameplay style of Be Somewhere Else can be likened to other horror walking simulator games, like Notes of Obsession and The Convenience Store. However, the exception is that this game uses a 2D pixel art style and features a top-down style of movement.
Chase the light
In Be Somewhere Else, the player takes on the role of a character who sees a mysterious light in the distance and decides they must have it. From there, they embark on a quest to reach the light, taking them through many strange and fantastical landscapes that quickly leave the mundane world behind.
Simple controls and gameplay
The player controls the protagonist using the arrow or WASD keys and space bar to interact. Beyond that, there is nothing else for the player to know (shift can be pressed to run, but that’s not essential). The player will walk around the strange world, interacting with objects and strange entities on their quest to find the light.
An interesting but short experience
Be Somewhere Else is undoubtedly an interesting and artistic experience, though the artistry of the game can reach the point of being hard to understand in places. The game is also very short, with the developer claiming around 10-15 minutes of gameplay, depending on how much exploring is done by the player.
