Enjoy new maps on Doom II
Austerity Mod is a free game utility from Tormentor667 that’s meant to be used alongside the popular first-person shooter game, Doom II. This mod, much like Doom II: National Videogame Museum Mod, provides you with new, detailed maps to explore filled with numerous enemies that you have to take down.
Austerity Mod takes inspiration from the popular Simplicity Mod, which added a large number of maps to the original game while also including customized weapons and monsters. The formerly mentioned utility is a smaller-scale version that adds fewer maps but also puts emphasis on high-quality graphics and visuals.
What does it offer?
Doom II has become a cult classic game that amassed a large following, also prompting a large number of fans to create unique mods to add to the game’s experience. It was originally released in 1994 and was re-released in 2019 with enhanced graphics to match newer devices and software. Including the expansion pack, there are 30 levels for players to explore in total.
Austerity Mod adds three additional levels on top of the 30 aforementioned ones. It features fast-paced gameplay that’s sure to keep you on your toes. This utility also includes alternative death animations for various characters and smoother weapon movements. Something to note, however, is that since it makes use of more modern graphics, the gore found in the game is further emphasized.
Another one of this mod’s selling points is that it’s perfectly compatible with co-op mode for up to eight players. However, it cannot be used in Deathmatch mode. You’ll also need to make sure to have at least version 4.4 of Gzdoom installed to prevent issues when installing the mod. Using an older version of this source port will display an error message upon opening.
A great addition to a classic game
Fans of Doom II are sure to enjoy the visually appealing graphics and detailed maps that are available in Austerity Mod. While installation can get a little tricky when you’re not using a newer version of the Gzdoom source port, it’s still worth the extra effort. The improved visuals and animations also create a more immersive experience that many players can appreciate.
