Highly configurable VPN for mobile
Astrill VPN Client is a free mobile client for the VPN service developed and offered by Astrill Systems. One of its highlight features is its highly configurable nature that allows users to manually set protocols, encryption type, and other privacy options to create a personalized experience.
Compared to popular options like ExpressVPN or NordVPN, Astrill VPN Client fares quite well, boasting fast and reliable connections speeds, as well as cross-platform support. After testing out its free trial offer, users can pick from various subscription plans that fit their needs and requirements.
Is it any good?
Astrill VPN comes packed with features that you’ve come to expect from a VPN service of its kind. There is a sizeable number of servers to choose from here in 107 cities spread across 57 countries, most of which run on either 1Gbit or 10Gbit lines, making for some really fast and reliable connection speeds. You also get to choose from 4 VPN protocols, namely OpenWeb, StealthVPN, OpenVPN, and Wireguard.
Other niceties include being able to unblock restricted sites and various streaming services that include the likes of Netflix and even Disney+. One very appreciated aspect of Astrill is its open and transparent stance on the no-logging policy when it comes to handling user data. You will also be glad to know that you will be able to use it on up to 5 devices at the same time.
There are some things that could be improved upon, though. For one, initial registration requires mobile numbers to complete. Another is the quite inconsistent user experience from its clients across all platforms—things that would hopefully be addressed in future updates. One thing to take note of is that the service’s pricing is comparatively higher than even the most popular VPN solutions today.
Fast but not without its quirks
The standout thing about using the Astrill VPN Client would really have to be its fast connection speeds. It is also very configurable if you like to tinker with settings and options. While the user experience is not quite streamlined across platforms and users might find its price higher compared to other VPN services, still this app is worth giving a try.
