The next Assassin’s Creed game
Assasin’s Creed Valhalla is a new addition to the popular role-playing game from Ubisoft. In this new chapter of the Assasin’s Creed series, players will visit the long-rumored Viking age. Players will take on the role of a Viking raider named Eivor, who will lead his clan from their native home in Norway to the shores of the Dark Ages of England. However, it won’t be that easy as resistance from the Saxons will hinder them from completing their journey.
As an Assassin’s Creed game, Valhalla features stealth mechanics, allowing players to sneak around, assassinate enemies, and infiltrate heavily guarded areas. The game also includes naval gameplay, allowing players to take to the seas in Viking longships, engaging in naval battles, and raiding enemy settlements along the coast.
Historical epic
Assasin’s Creed Valhalla shows a much bloodier affair than the other AC titles. In fact, it looks to be the bloodiest entry to date. Unlike other games from the series, the game is far more concerned with large-scale battles between the soldiers of Medieval Britain and Viking invaders. It also features large open, rural environments rather than the dense cities that allow assassin avatars to do their job.
Speaking of assassins, this installment seems to do away with the stealth that the series is known for. The game, like Origins and Odyssey, is far more focused on direct combat rather than the silent kill mechanics of earlier entries. Moreover, it introduces new features, such as raids, settlement management, and customization. Of course, there are times when your character may do sneak attacks, but it looks to be more of a continuity nod rather than the central mechanic.
This new version offers a fresh direction by providing a historical epic. However, the biggest put-off in the game is the continued inclusion of the lore that started the series. Getting immersed in the new environment is going to be hard when you are yanked out of the historical period every few hours for the sake of the larger story arc.
A mix of new and old
Assasin’s Creed Valhalla, like Odyssey, offers new features that seem to break away from earlier AC entries. The combat has been altered in some form, with an emphasis on making every hit impactful. It will also largely feature historical scenarios—the Vikings journey to a new land and the battle with the English soldiers. However, some trademark AC features are still intact, including the modern story from Origins and Odyssey.
