Become a legendary buccaneer with Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed Pirates is a spinoff of the fantastic Assassin’s Creed IV on Android. The game focuses on the naval battles by allowing you to become captain of your own boat to roam the merciless Caribbean seas.
“Free man, you will always cherish the sea!”
Rather than trying to ape the Assassin’s Creed IV console experience, Pirates focuses on its maritime aspect. Your task will be to lead your ship, plunder merchant ships, and confront other pirates with questionable intentions. If you’ve always dreamed of going to sea, then Assassin’s Creed Pirates is for you!
The progression system in the game is very well thought out and you’ll take great pleasure in slowly developing your small band of pirates. It’s particularly pleasing to note that Assassin’s Creed Pirates doesn’t offer an optional in-app purchases: once you’ve paid for the application on the Google Play Store, you actually have the entire contents without having to pay additional fees. Nowadays this is rarity that can’t be ignored!
Particularly good playability
Assassin’s Creed Pirates boasts all the best features of the series on mobile. The different phases of the game (map moves, control of the vessel, and naval battles) dovetail perfectly with each other, and each offers its own particular gameplay.
You do everything using the touch screen and there are plenty of details that give the game substance: managing the sails, controlling the helm, and tactical phases where you have to move out of enemy ships’ field of vision. However, we think it’s a shame that by trying to offer us a (rather uninteresting) plot, the game obliges us to follow a very long tutorial throughout the first part. This spoils the feeling of freedom that any seafarer should be entitled to.
An atmosphere that’s immaculate without being exceptional
The home menu of the application sets the tone: Assassin’s Creed Pirates is a big budget game and offers content that’s up to the task. The music is epic and makes you want to drink rum straight from the barrel, while the overall aesthetic is very successful.
Graphically, Assassin’s Creed Pirates is a good quality product without dazzling us. It’s a pity that this aspect hasn’t been developed more for a game of this type, which requires a (relatively powerful) device to be functional.
Our verdict: the best Assassin’s Creed spinoff on mobile
Assassin’s Creed Pirates is a huge success. Much thought has gone in to ensuring playability so that the game is well adapted to mobiles and tablets, and the different phases of the game link naturally and offer us all a lot of fun.
Satisfactory from a technical standpoint, the game is also highly recommended to all fans of the series but shouldn’t remain exclusive to them: any and all lovers of high-flying mobile games would do well to rush out to get Assassin’s Creed Pirates, which turns out to be one of the best surprises of recent months. Although you have to pay for the game, the lack of micro-transaction is a significant detail that ended up convincing us.
