Free total conversion mod for Doom II
Ashes 2063 is a game utility developed by Ashes Dev Group. Free to download, this app works as a total conversion mod for Doom II. It brings a new premise and gameplay to the popular first-person shooter game.
Ashes 2063 replaces virtually everything about the original gameplay. It has an all-new cast of enemies, a new arsenal of weapons, and a new variety of locales. Players will also be happy to know that you can download the app as a standalone game. With this, you can play it straight vanilla. Even better, it works well with other Doom mods.
What is Ashes 2063?
Ashes 2063 is one of the more ambitious modding projects for Doom II. It takes players back to a post-apocalyptic wasteland that looks like those 80’s B-tier action movies. In the game, a nuclear blast annihilated the city of Atlanta. You play as a scavenger trying to survive by fighting the supernatural enemies born out of the ambient radiation left in the wake of the disaster.
As a total conversion mod, the app replaces virtually everything about the original Doom game. There is a new arsenal with a reloading system and new weapon types powerups. You will also meet and also an all-new cast of enemies with more advanced AI. Moreover, there will be new locales, including abandoned towns, a bombed highway, and secret military laboratories. Some maps even come with a fully drivable motorcycle.
This game may be using Doom’s engine, but players familiar with Duke Nukem 3D will see the similarities. The mod has inventory management, some NPC interaction, and trading in addition to the motorcycle. You will also be happy to know that the combat is tight, especially with its ammo distribution. However, it currently only has two full episodes. Nonetheless, it has an expansion, offering dozens of maps to explore.
Is the mod good?
Overall, Ashes 2063 lives up to the Doom name. While it has a different premise, it provides an experience similar to its original version. It has action-packed combat, great graphics, and an absolute banger soundtrack. Moreover, it brings a lot of impressive new things to the game, including an interesting level design. Even better, you can play it without the original Doom II game app.
