Wade into old-school fantasy battle in Apocryph
Apocryph is a fantasy first-person shooter with an old-school aesthetic. In this game, you play the Arbiter, an exiled religious leader who returns to his home to find it overrun by evil. Using a variety of different magical weapons, you’ll have to battle your way through legions of enemies.
Return to a neglected genre
Fantasy first-person shooter games are relatively rare, so Apocryph will be a welcome return for fans of games like Heretic and Strife. The graphics are reminiscent of games of the 90s, with an over-the-top metal-inspired aesthetic that will be pleasantly familiar to veterans of that era. You start out armed with simple spiked gauntlets, but as you play you’ll pick up magical staffs and other weapons, each of which generates a different type of magic attack. You’ll also need to collect different types of mana to fuel your various attacks. Apocryph focuses on fast-paced, run-and-gun action and spectacular kills.
Simple retro thrills
If you’re a fan of classic fantasy shooters, you’ll find a lot ot like in Apocryph. The action is fast-paced and the varied weapon effects keep things fresh. The graphics do feel a little dated, but if you’re in the right frame of mind that just adds to the charm.
