Open-world survival game in the sky
Aloft is a premium adventure game developed by Astrolabe Interactive Inc. for PC. It is an open-world survival title wherein players will need to do what they can to survive living on floating islands that were swept up to the sky by a mysterious and perpetual hurricane.
Given the serious nature of its genre, Aloft offers a surprisingly vibrant and colorful art style similar to Subnautica or ASTRONEER. Although note that this is a demo game released to let players have a hands-on experience with the gameplay and get a sense of what they can expect from the full game.
Islands in the sky
Aloft is set in a world caught t in a mysterious and eternal hurricane. This has resulted in the land breaking up and becoming individual floating islands spread across the sky. Here, you will be navigating this vast, open skyscape and dealing with all the harsh conditions that come with it. Thus, begins your journey and tribulations with life among the clouds.
Start with a small island and build a base to serve as a safe shelter. Put up sails and take advantage of the wind to help you move through the sky and explore more areas. Collect water from clouds, establish windmills as your power source, and grow plants and animals. As you expand your territory, place zip lines to make it easy to move from one island to another.
Take a break and just fly and wander using your glider. You will sometimes encounter corrupted islands, and healing them will unlock new types of plants, animals, and resources for you. You can also brave the eye of the storm in search of answers and mysteries—solo or co-op. Unfortunately, the game is still in the demo stage, so the content will be limited.
Soaring high
Aloft is an oddity in the world of survival games. From the moment you start a new game, the experience feels more like a relaxing adventure than a constant fight for your life. It’s not bad, just different. Gameplay-wise, it offers plenty of things to do, and the ability to fly around with your glider is a nice touch. Overall, it creates a great hype for the full game.
