Play songs in album order from iTunes
AlbumPlay adds a feature to the iPhone that iTunes is missing. When you select ‘All tracks’ in iTunes they will play in alphabetical order – this app allows you to search by artist, then play the tracks in album order.
Using your existing iTunes library means AlbumPlay doesn’t require any work to install, and it’s a very small app. It’s also very simple – it’s not integrated into iTunes, but a separate app. Open it and you can search through the artists in your library, then listen to tracks in the order they appear in albums. That function works perfectly well, but AlbumPlay has no search, so you have to scroll through your artists, which can be laborious if you have a big library.
The other problem with AlbumPlay is that it doesn’t solve the other problem with searching by artist – sometimes albums are tagged with guest stars on tracks, and then these tracks are removed from the original artist’s list. If you use AlbumPlay with an artist who has multiple guests on an album, they’ll be excluded from the playlist, which spoils the album listening experience. Of course you might say that if you want to listen to an album, you could just search for it in the album list, though it’s useful if you’re forgetful!
If you are annoyed by the problem AlbumPlay solves, it’s a great little app. However, it feels a little unfinished, and could do a lot more to be a better search and play app for your iTunes collection
