Free remote desktop client
Connecting a PC to a remote location is easy to do nowadays. With remote PC apps, you can access some files or view the desktop and its ongoing activities wherever you are. AeroAdmin is among the growing number of remote control software. This app makes it easy for anyone to establish a remote desktop connection with another computer, provided that they are running the same app. It is compact and uncomplicated, with all the functionalities you expect from a remote support tool. It is free for commercial and personal use, but with some limitations.
Setup and interface
One of the advantages of AeroAdmin over its competition is that it does not require a permanent installation. Users need only to download and run the program to either connect to a remote computer or enable a connection to your device. As with similar apps, you will need the host computer’s ID number and permission from the user to connect. You can also access an unattended computer. However, the device needs pre-configuration, so that it runs automatically when the operating system starts up.
Connecting to a host is easy since there is nothing for you to configure. All you have to do is provide the computer ID and choose between view-only mode or remote control. You will then need to wait for the host PC to allow you access.
Insofar as the target PC is concerned, AeroAdmin allows the user to accept or reject the connection. They can also set the access rights once they allow the connection. The target PC user can control how much access the remote PC has, including mouse and keyboard control, clipboard synchronization, and screen viewing.
Interface-wise, the app looks more or less what you would expect from a remote desktop program. On the app’s window, you can see a toolbar across the top screen, which contains all the software’s functions. The most notable feature here is the file transfer tool. However, this feature does not mimic the original Windows Explorer interface. Nevertheless, you can use it for bulk file transfers since you can copy and paste files between the connected computers.
Features, performance, and security
AeroAdmin comes with a decent selection of features. Firstly, the app comes with a contact book, where you can save frequently accessed computers. The contact book enables you to open connections with a single click and without needing to re-enter the host computer IDs. The app also includes SOS message features. IT helpdesk teams can use this tool to connect to various branches of the organization with ease.
Using the app, a user can send a support ticket to the helpdesk. AeroAdmin will then send a link that allows immediate connection to both computers. Keep in mind, however, that this feature is subscription-based. Also, the number of messages you can send in a month depends on your subscription tier.
More than the contact book and the SOS messages, AeroAdmin also comes with other helpful—if not exciting—features. As mentioned, you can sync clipboards between connected computers for simple file transfer. You can also take screenshots of the target PC. However, screen recording is not allowed. Finally, the app can reboot the target PC remotely, which helps update software or operating systems.
AeroAdmin offers some security features to prevent unauthorized computer access. As noted, users of the target PC have the option to accept and reject the new connection. They can also terminate all current connections with a single click. More than that, the app has a built-in mechanism to prevent the brute-forcing of ID codes. After several failed attempts of providing an incorrect ID, the app will temporarily lock itself.
However, the biggest drawback to the app is its performance. Even on a stable connection, the remote desktop connection drops every 10 to 15 minutes. Moreover, if the drop happens during a file transfer, you will need to restart the process from the beginning. Worse, adjusting the setting, such as screen resolution and image balancing, does not solve the problem.
Final thoughts
AeroAdmin is a remote access app that suits IT helpdesks. The app is simple that you can establish remote connections easily. However, its few performance issues can be a bummer, especially if you are using the app for transferring large files. Moreover, it has a pretty limited set of features. Overall, there are few better options if you are looking for a remote desktop solution that offers more functions for a small price.
