Burn up the track in Over Top
Over Top is an arcade racing game originally released by SNK in 1996. One of the few racing games on the Neo-Geo arcade platform, Over Top focuses more on fast-paced driving action. You choose from eight different vehicles and race against computer opponents through a single long track. With each checkpoint you pass, you’ll add seconds to the countdown. Run out of time, and it’s game over.
Simple arcade action
If you’re looking for a racing simulator, Over Top is not what you’re looking far: it’s an arcade action game with a racing theme. For instance, collisions that would demolish a real car don’t do much in Over Top except cost you time. Of course, that’s because time is what this game is all about. The different vehicles provide advantages and disadvantages in the track’s varied environments. In 1996, Over Top’s CGI vehicles looked very sophisticated, although paradoxically they now look dated compared to earlier, more traditional Neo-Geo games.
A little shallow, but still fun
Once you’ve tried out the various different cars, there isn’t a lot of depth to Over Top. Nonetheless, it still delivers tense, fast-paced arcade driving action.
