Comprehensive tool to recover data from FAT and NTFS drives

It only takes a few seconds to accidentally delete precious files or to lose important data in a hard drive disaster. But even in those desperate situations there’s a software tool that can help you.

Its name is Disk Doctors Windows Data Recovery and it lets you easily recover lost data from your hard drive. The program has two separate executables, one for NTFS and one for FAT, along with a special tool called File Tracer, which I found especially useful: it enables you to look for certain file types inside a given drive. Disk Doctors Windows Data Recovery is very easy to use. Right after launch the program displays a wizard that takes you step by step through the recovery process. However this wizard apparently lacks the possibility to narrow your search with filters, which may result in a really long and confusing list you’ll have to examine very carefully to find the files you’re looking for. There’s also a “Turbo scan” that performs a more in-depth analysis of your hard drive, though to be honest I couldn’t notice the difference: both analysis did find lots of deleted folder and files.

Disk Doctors Windows Data Recovery also lets you create disk images and recover data from them, but these two options are not available in the trial version.
